The theme song for this week just might be 'I Wanna Talk About Me' by Toby Keith. (In fact I think we'll listen to this on Simpletales on Tuesday as a belated birthday tribute to Toby who had a birthday in July). Yes we are still under the influence of all these planets in emotional water. With bigger-than-life Jupiter in Cancer for the next year, we really can't escape the pull of family and home on our heart strings. However, the cosmos is moving in a new direction and catching fire with a New Moon in Leo on Tuesday and with Mercury's move to Leo on Thursday.
Can we ever really say enough about Leo? Ask someone with a Sun, Rising, Moon or Venus in Leo and you'll never ask the question again! Here we are reminded of the perfect order of the cosmos as each sign corrects for the over-achievement or excess of the previous. During Cancer cycles we may lose ourselves in the family, community, home team, tribe and 'greater good'. When the spotlight swings to Leo, it highlights the importance of unique individuals, self expression, and the need within us all to be recognized and appreciated. We want to come out from the shadow of the group. And even the most shy among us harbors a secret wish that it's someone else's turn to be the 'wind beneath your wings'.
The New Moon at 14 Leo on Tuesday should light a fire within us – probably right around the Solar Plexus – energizing our sense of individual importance and purpose. This monthly joining of the Sun and Moon requires some adjustment (loose square with the North and South Nodes of the Moon in Scorpio and Taurus) and is enlivened with an innovative boost from Uranus in Aries.
Like many New Moons which close out one cycle and open a new one, we may feel a bit like we are coming and going at the same time. On one hand it really is time to sing our own praises, or at least acknowledge to ourselves what we have done well and feel pride and joy in our accomplishments. On the other hand, we are being called to release the past – especially the disappointments – and move on. Revolutionary Uranus and the North Node are calling us to awaken to new possibilities. Celebrate and feel good about your life but don't get too comfortable. This really is the first day of the rest of your life.
Our minds feel lighter with new inspiration on Thursday as Mercury (finally) moves into Leo. It has been in Cancer since May 31st, which for quicksilver Mercury is a very long time. The retrograde is behind us, and we've learned a few things. Woo hoo! If you remember only one thing about Mercury in Leo, remember this, 'self-expression'. We might overdo it – Mercury in Leo is very fond of hearing themselves talk. But this is no reason to shut yourself down. This is the time to speak your mind, to believe in yourself and your ideas. As Laura Lozano would say, 'live out-loud'! Connect with your inner child, your inner artist, and your inner creative spirit with no judgment or censorship. Ok wait, I suppose we ought to show at least a touch of self-discipline and control, but just a touch. Leo is about being courageous, flamboyant, dramatic and self-confident. Leo is the performer and as Shakespeare enlightened us, 'All the world is a stage, and all the men and women merely players. Consciously write your script and make sure you give yourself the leading role.
Today is the last full day of the lunar cycle but we may be anything but quiet. The Moon in self-expressive Leo has tales to tell of lessons learned. In workbook lesson 193 of A Course In Miracles we are encouraged to 'Let no one hour cast its shadow on the one that follows, and when that one goes, let everything that happened in its course go with it. Thus will you remain unbound, in peace eternal in the world of time.'
And how do we do this? The answer is simple yet challenging – practice forgiveness. I am reminded of this lesson because it seems so logical and obvious, especially for the end of the lunar cycle. Why would we insist on carrying anything forward, especially emotions, attitudes or disappointments that drag us down? If we can learn to be in the present moment, alert and conscious to whatever presents on our path – voila! No more baggage or fees for overweight luggage at the cosmic airport!
Express yourself and share your personal lessons and stories today. But try not to take yourself or others too seriously. Practice neutrality and leave the judgments and condemnations behind, especially this evening when the Moon squares off with responsible Saturn in introspective Scorpio. Look for and find compassion.
Daily Muse: I will forgive and this will disappear…Only my forgiveness sets me free. (A Course In Miracles Workbook for Students)
TUESDAY AUGUST 6 NEW MOON in LEO
Moon Void of Course 2:51 pm (PDT) – 8:57 pm Wednesday evening
New Moon 14 Leo 2:51 pm (PDT)
The New Moon in Leo in mid-afternoon sends the Moon spinning off in a void of course pattern until tomorrow night. Think creativity! This is not only a time of new beginnings, but the time to embrace your personal and powerful creativity and pioneering spirit. Leo can get overly concerned about being appreciated and receiving accolades of recognition but this is a focus in the wrong direction. The New Moon's productive relationship with unconventional Uranus sparks innovation, brilliance and futuristic hopes and dreams. Although this may seem counter intuitive, this is not the time to focus on what the market will buy, but rather on what our unique gifts and contributions looks like. What makes your heart sing? This New Moon lights a fire in our guts and in our hearts. This is the time to brainstorm, not to judge or evaluate. Fearlessly, color outside the lines. Seek for your heart's desire and the success and accolades will follow.
Daily Muse: Imagine what you most would like to do to help keep the world magical. (Cooper Edens)

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 7 MOON in LEO - VIRGO
Moon enters Virgo 8:57 pm (PDT)
It's a banner day at the cosmic dance and very possibly will provide a glimpse into things to come. Ethical Jupiter is moving into the first of three oppositions with regenerative Pluto that occur between today and April 20th of next year. Both are relatively slow moving planets so the effects of their interactions have a longer and more impactful influence. This first confrontation may open up the box (hopefully not Pandora's!) and introduce us to some ideas and beliefs we will examine and evaluate over time. Oppositions call on us to open up to different and conflicting opinions than our own and find a way to balance and integrate seemingly different beliefs and ideas.
Although there is a range of issues and topics that will be included, the signs of the transiting planets – Cancer for Jupiter and Capricorn for Pluto give us significant reason to believe many of these issues will concern finding the truth about balance between career and home life. And don't expect it to be an easy and quick fix. Give yourself some time to really think over these issues and dilemmas and know that paying attention will lead you to your own personal truth and answers. The key is being willing to be open rather than digging in and defending a position.
Daily Muse: The key question isn't 'What fosters creativity?' but it is why in God's name isn't everyone creative? Where was the human potential lost? How was it crippled? I think therefore a good question might be not why do people create, but why do people not create and innovate? We have got to abandon that sense of amazement in the face of creativity, as if it were a miracle if anybody creative anything. (Abraham Maslow)
THURSDAY AUGUST 8
MOON in VIRGO
Mercury enters Leo 5:13 am (PDT)
Mercury the messenger planet is on the move. After an extended stay at the beachfront resort in Cancer, he's breathing easier in the fire of Leo. He loves to be inspired and dramatic and radiant Leo is just the sign for that. We're all probably a little more attention-seeking with the increasing Leo energy but why not? Everybody could use a little more recognition now and then.
Of course don't expect overwhelming applause for your every utterance today with Venus and Saturn squabbling a bit. This can erode self-confidence and yet is a call to personal responsibility. The Moon in Virgo can also add a bit of fuel to the fire with a touch of 'constructive criticism' ever ready.
Expect that if we are all looking for approval today we might be creating a stew pot of neediness. Be your own advocate; you don't need anyone else to complete you or make you whole. Let criticism slide off like rain on a freshly washed car. Offer kind words to others where appropriate. (With a Moon in Virgo, don't' even try to be out of integrity.) Keep your energy clear and make like a Virgo and withdraw for some much deserved privacy and quiet if the going gets tough.
Daily Muse: Solitude is not something you must hope for in the future. Rather, it is a deepening of the present, and unless you look for it in the present you will never find it. (Thomas Merton)
FRIDAY AUGUST 9 MOON IN VIRGO
Moon Void of Course 3:05 pm (PDT) – 6:08 am Saturday morning
The energy is kinder today with a perky little connection between Venus and Jupiter that bodes well for relationships and for all of us feeling generally more optimistic about the future. Rather than feeling boxed in, we feel clever and inspired and maybe even hear the voices of opportunity whispering to us. Good-natured Lunar connections with both Mars in Cancer and Venus in Virgo help keep things feeling balanced and on track. We can derive a sense of pleasure and satisfaction from both work and recreation. This is especially true if we welcome the Virgo energy that represents perfection, integrity and modesty and send the critic packing.
Daily Muse: Unconditional love is not so much about how we receive and endure each other, as it is about the deep vow to never, under any condition, stop bringing the flawed truth of who we are to each other. (Mark Nepo)
SATURDAY AUGUST 10 MOON in VIRGO / LIBRA
Moon enters Libra 6:08 am (PDT)
Fantasy and imagination rules the day so we might as well give ourselves over to a movie, good book, or a lively but very possibly silly conversation. Take everything you hear or read with more than a grain of salt. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the exaggerations, or out-of-this world ideas. Mercury and Neptune are in a funky but creative relationship, so don't expect things to seem logical or make any sense – at least not the common sense you are used to. That being said, many spiritual truths don't make sense when we try to logic them out based on the 'realities' of this material world. Up is down, right is left, black is white and in the end – all is one.
Daily Muse: Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom. (Kierkegaard)
Today it is Mars that defies gravity as it makes an impracticable connection to dreamy Neptune. We might need to adjust our expectations as it's likely we will be in the 'seeking but never finding' mode. Many times we seem to enjoy the chase and the process much more than actually achieving the goal. A similar phenomenon called 'monkey mind' is where we tend to be restless and fanciful, even whimsical, but certainly not settled and fixed on a goal. Mars represents our energy and motivation and today that's diluted and scattered by the connection to Neptune. Enjoy the ride with an open mind but maybe save the heavy lifting on that to-do list for another day.
But we don't get off exactly scott free with Mercury's square to Saturn. Despite an overriding haziness to the day, people will expect our thoughts and conversations to be relatively focused and on target. Practice patience. We may be feeling pressure to do or say the right thing, even if we are totally clueless of exactly what that is! As always, the best policy is honesty and integrity.
Daily Muse: We don't let go into trust until we've exhausted our egos. (Rob Lehman)

Two New Relationship Reports!
My friends in the UK have offered two different types of Relationship reports. One for "You In a Relationship" and the other for the both of you in a relationship.Take a look! One is called "Stay in Love" and the other is "Relationship for Two"
I've received a lot of e-mail lately from students of the mysteries seeking advice on how to get started, or what books they should read in order to round out their metaphysical knowledge. I've also been asked if I'm going to start a class on general metaphysics. I'm working on it. But, until then, I thought I'd offer what I consider to be a solid reading list to get you going.
The following books aren't listed in any particular order. I keep each of these, as well as others, at arm's length in order to reference and cross-reference ideas that pop in and out of my head. You may not find that every book is for you, but since I've been asked, here you are.
Before I proceed, let me offer this bit of truth; nothing comes easily. One of the main complaints I hear from seekers is that the knowledge doesn't come quickly enough, or that it's as clear as mud. I've been studying these subjects for most of my life with a dogged enthusiasm that has, at times, left me dejected, angry, confused and misled. I suppose being as obsessed with the subject as I am has its good and bad points, but it's incredibly worthwhile. These books may not change your life as they have mine. Then again, they may be pivotal to your journey. Each book I've suggested has been instrumental in my understanding, and I hope you'll get something out of them too. We truly do stand on the shoulders of giants.
The Book of Thoth, by Aleister Crowley
I've read this book no less than three times a year since the mid 1970's. It doesn't matter whether or not you study the Thoth Tarot deck. If you're a fan of Tarot in any way shape or form, then I believe that this is a book that you should have.
The old man didn't make it easy on us, that's for sure. It's not simple to understand. In fact, it's designed to be obscure in order to spur the student to further studies. There isn't another book on the Thoth Tarot that I can recommend. I don't like any of them, and there are quite a few. Who knows? Maybe I'll finish mine one of these days.
No matter what you think of Aleister Crowley, the man, he was a brilliant metaphysician.
If you read this book, don't expect to understand everything. Just read. You'll get more out of it than you think.
777, by Aleister Crowley
More of a reference source to those of us obsessed by metaphysical numbers, this book does offer an amazing introduction to Gematria, or Qabalistic Numerology. The first few chapters are worth the price of the book. The latter chapters will become a part of your daily life, in time.
The Golden Dawn, by Israel Regardie
The Golden Dawn was the most influential magical order of its time. It featured luminaries from Victorian society and went on to become directly responsible for other orders and much of what we consider to be modern pagan ritual. This book is the collection of The Golden Dawn's philosophy, teachings and rituals. Its emphasis is on information and knowledge, although it does provide the actual rituals as used by the order.
It's important to remember that ritual is meant to be done in the mind. It's also important to remember that very little ritual is necessary. This book is worth its weight in Alchemical gold. I advise a copy that has an index.
The Secret Teachings of All Ages, by Manly P. Hall
This delightful book is filled with some of the most amazing information you'll ever read. Hall gives us a view of what's important and what isn't when it comes to the study of metaphysics. He delivers everything from Djinni and Alchemy to Secret Rosicrucian Codes and just about everything in between. It's a beautifully illustrated book and has come out in paperback. If you have the opportunity to find one of the older copies with full-color plates, I suggest trying to snag it. This book is great fun for casual reading, but is still extremely informative and a lovely way to learn more about our art.
The I-Ching or book of changes by Richard Wilhelm, Translated by Cary Baynes
I first met the the I-Ching in 1968. I've been working with, and studying it, ever since. I like the Wilhelm/Baynes version because Richard Wilhelm absolutely understood, delivered and commented upon the content of the I-Ching without weighing it down with "superior" Western judgements.
As an oracle, I-Ching is powerful, clear and friendly. It does take a bit of practice to know how to use it properly but once discovered, it will never cease to answer any and every question you may have.
More importantly, the I-Ching is filled with pertinent advice on how to live life and what this journey is about. It's an encyclopedia of wisdom that's hard to match anywhere else. Not bad for a book 5000 years old.
Make sure to read the introduction by Carl Jung.
You may be surprised at this, but I suggest you read as many holy books as you can, and I mean all you can find. We live in a world that's dominated by religion, in one form or another, so it's in our best interest to understand where and what we believe and why we believe what we do. Also, much of modern metaphysical thought was encoded in "acceptable" religious clothing. The more you know, the better off you'll be.
There are dozens of other books I'd like to include here, but this seems like a good enough start. Astrology, Runes, Qabalah and other subjects haven't even been tackled. There are also novels that cut to the core to what it means to be a creature in the world of nature, defining humanity in contrast to being human. Moby Dick is such a novel, as is Frankenstein. But that's a topic for another day.
So, keep reading and expect to work. If it came easily, how boring would that be?
Until next week, I wish you peace, love and wonderful obsessions.
Program Note: Out of Mo's Mind, will air on Wednesday, August the 7th, 2013 at 9 AM, Pacific Daylight Time. I actually know exactly what I'm going to discuss this week. This has caused some sort of rift in the Space Time Continuum, one I'm a bit concerned about. In fact, I think it may be risky to actually mention my topic, as I could pull an ethereal muscle, leading to intense cramping on some plane. Instead, I'll simply say, LIVE! Ow! Did you feel that?
Class Note: My last class on Developing Inner Vision will take place on Wednesday, August 7 at 4 PM, Pacific time. This class will focus on how to manifest change with the inner eye. Click here to register.

On The Way
Angel en route to a place of entertainment. Her seahorse is a good friend with a good listening ear. The riding collar she has for him reflects her love of him with the pink glass beaded hearts shapes. Butterfly in foreground, a metaphor for transformation. See if you can find some unusual entertainment to attend over the next week. It may be a place where you are able to dress up more than usual. Bring a favorite friend and share your experience. Think of how you can make all of your friends a favorite, it may be that they have something special other than a a good listening ear. Find their forte and over time get together with each of them from a unique appreciation perspective to see if you can enjoy them even more. Perhaps if you are lifting their lives, by reflecting their high points back to them, they too will lift yours even more. Transforming to a more loving, giving, and receiving place in life is the perfect item for any to-do list.
Many of the interests I have in my eclectic world will be represented here. From the weekly Power Peek to the things and people that I love (not all of them, of course). May you find something you like. Mark
