Betsy Gutting is a fascinating person. She is a therapist, life coach, inspired teacher and she never stops her mission to bring you an inspired message based on her life experience and training.
She asked me if I would join her to talk about - Me - and in my mind I could instantly see the ratings drop! LOL She seriously wanted to just talk about things that many people want to know but never get the chance to ask.
The Show was going to be called "Inside the Mind of Mark Husson" but there was a little too much empty space to call it a show so we opted for "The Power of Choosing YOU". Betsy is brave and you would be too if you tune in live This Monday and NOON pacific on 12Radio.com.

Happy New Year!
I was advising a client the other day about her travel plans. She asked me if the Mercury retrograde, taking place on the 23rd of February, would pose a problem for a proposed trip. I immediately looked for a soap box to stand on so I could deliver my speech on the absurdity of such beliefs, but then a glimmer of the recent past came to mind, one so dramatic that I shut my mouth and took another look at her chart. I told her it was possible that Mercury could be a pest, but due to where it falls in her chart, not probable. I then told her to be aware of its influence, just in case.
One of the benefits of age is on the job training. I used to be the first one in line to label the Mercury Retrograde as hooey. I'd regale the listener with astrological theories and make bold comments about how it's only apparent motion and an insidious form of common superstition. All this, even though I owned a car that only had problems with the audio system during a Mercury retrograde. I chalked that up to coincidence.
To be clear, I don't fear the retrograde, nor do I proclaim it have any real influence, but I do take it into account when dealing with certain issues. Anything dealing with electronics, communication, merchandise being bought or sold and travel are all possible points of irritation.
As Mercury rules thievery, it's a good idea to be vigilant in areas of life where we have what others may want. I was plagiarized during a Mercury retrograde and only discovered it during the next such Mercuric episode. I don't try to explain it; I just give it respect and a bit of room.
What changed my mind? Thank you for asking. I had one Mercury Retrograde that seemed intent on getting a little respect out of me, once and for all. If it could go wrong, it did. I was so impacted by the experience that I wrote the following poem.
I Do, I Do, I Do, Believe
I say it now, and do defect,
and yearn for Mercury direct.
O'er the years I've bellowed "NAY!"
"The retrograde works not that way!"
"Yes, perhaps, a glitch or two,"
"But not that bad, not much ado."
Oh tiny planet with impish streaks,
you've made me rue the past few weeks.
Missed deliveries, botched up plans,
phone calls sound like two tin cans.
Loss of signal, temper, mind,
Mercury, you've been unkind!
New desk too big to fit the door.
It worked like clockwork, in the store.
"Whattaya mean not 'til next week?"
"Whattaya mean I'm up a creek?"
Mercury, I've been a jerk,
just log me on so I can work.
I'll sing your praises, energy wizard,
and love you from my scalp to gizzard.
It's possible you do have sway,
direct or not, it seems that way.
When next you turn I will behave,
and check myself into a cave.
Interestingly enough, I haven't had another Mercury retro period as nasty as the one that prompted my ode. Since Mercury rules the mind, I guess it knows that I'm less skeptical and a lot more mindful.
So, my dear friends, don't fear retrogrades. There's nothing to fear. All you have to do is pay attention to details, be ready for glitches and, most importantly, keep your sense of humor. If there's anything Mercury loves, it's a good laugh and it's always better to have it laughing with you than at you.
Have a wonderful week. I wish you all peace and love.

A friend recently remarked about being in a period of darkness because he felt disconnected from God. As we talked further, he discovered the God he felt disconnected from had begun to change faces. So he wasn't recognizing God much lately.
Our evolution requires us to keep moving; we unfurl our energy in the world. We morph and change, just like clouds do. When the cloud begins to "rain" is it no longer a cloud? Its shape has changed into another form, but it is still water, condensed into its next incarnation.
My friend talked about how God used to be a far away figure, someone to talk to at night, a silent consultant for his prayers. Then recently in his life, god changed. And he couldn't "find" him anymore for a while. What happened? In our conversation we discovered that my friend had been doing a lot of changing in recent years, during which time he temporarily found himself isolated. But then God re-emerged in my friend's life in a new way. It is as if he turned in a circle and had different vantage points for where God was in his life. As he evolved, God was no longer a distant figure. My friend, in his rotation, had turned in a new direction and suddenly one day, began to realize God had a new form.
Where is he, I asked. He is my day light, my coffee, my friends, people I see on the street, my dog's wet nose, he replied.
What if the dark nights we experience, where we imagine we are alone, lost, confused or disconnected, are just moments in our "rotation." We are turning in new directions in our lives and discovering a re-connection at every turn. There is a tiny blind spot in the turn, though, where we wonder if we will come face-to-face with the light again. And we will.

Now and Then
This image speaks about beginnings and endings. The woman in this image supports herself in her life. She makes things happen for herself always. Life is too short to waste it on "things I could have done." Make the space between the beginnings and endings a thriving reality The Pink Floyd song lyrics come to mind, ."..And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun...." Here the softly spoken magic spell to grace yourself by filling your time with everything and everyone you love.

My favorite book from college is "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn. I read it for a Sociology 101 class and it changed my way of thinking. The book taught me a very important premise that I did not get from my childhood. There is no one right way to live. Diversity is the key to successful human civilizations just as it is in all ecosystems. This message is only one from the book, but it is the one that continues to stick with me all these years later.

Living in rural Idaho as a child the message was always that everyone needed to live one way in order to be happy and worthy of love and eternal life. This was a hard thing to do and many people lived outside the accepted "right way." These people lived with shame and fear that when they died they would not go to heaven and would not be with their loved ones again. They were shunned in their community and lived on the fringe. When I was young it never dawned on me that maybe they just needed to live a different way to be happy. Now I know that there as many right ways to live as there are people on this planet.
One of the things that I hope to do for all of the people I work with, whether you read this column, listen to me on the radio, or call me on 12 Listen is to instill a sense of divinity in each of you. I believe that the divine resides in all of us, and there is no one right way to be divine, you are divine in this very moment as you read The Power Peek.
Diversity is the key to a healthy life, community, society and world. We need opposing views and differing lifestyles. Diversity stimulates thinking and debate and ultimately inspires innovation. Diversity challenges us to love unconditionally and to choose respect for life over shared beliefs.
Allowing diversity to thrive is a challenge that we must take up. We are all one, but we are not all the same, and that is why we are all divine!
Blessings my friends,
